    > 夏邦茗 was once the weather girl The first wave of weather girls on TVB were quite memorable. Betty Chung's sister 鍾曉薇 (not sure the exact spelling) was one I adore. Even young 林燕妮 appeared for a short time in this role and I remember she made funny gestures deliberately :-) Now about the music competition, The Star's Talent Quest were really good until the early 70s. The brother duet Dick & David always won the folk song section. The most memorable and unique one was a group who dared to do the jazzy song Take Five (Dave Brubeck hit) and its pianist was none other but 林敏怡 who later became the best songwriter of cantonese songs in the 80s. I think she was studying in St Paul Co-ed. Of course 5 year old Rowena Cortes was delightful and the song she did was "Very Very" ...

you should write a piece on these weather girls. was 容茱廸 one?

am i really resourceful about the obscure & the offbeat as commented by mr deng?? any person worshipping the internet deity can do that dude! i think mr julianlee's writing is pretty unique in hk as his gay sensibility is apparent and unintimidated; his cocky attitude and self-confidence in his own talent are admired by readers younger than him; i hope sincerely his photography works can fetch a higher price in the MARKET goodluck for october!

Glad that the "Too Proud" song does bring back memories for quite a few here. Siu Yu, your parents are quite "hip" in those days cos The Voice of Love was normally regarded as "teenager pop music" like those by Paul Anka, Elvis, Ricky Nelson ... About Paul and Francis, they were the class of 1970 and must have gone to Canada for Form 6 (Canada was a fav. place for studying abroad in those years) By the way, 梁舜燕 elder son 阮惠源 was also in that class of 1970 and her younger son 阮惠熊 was the class of 1972 (i.e. a year my junior) They both went to work for RTV after their studies. Okay, let me share with you another rarity oldie, an English song by Rebecca Pan ,in fact a 西詞中曲 ,adapted from the famous mandarin song 痴痴地等 www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=wZ4mIJX400Q I made the MV using some nostalgic scenes in memory of demolished Star Ferry Terminal I find Rebecca's english diction and voice quite different from her Mandarin songs and rather melancholic, which I like. Thanks for reminding me of 夏邦茗. I only have a vague memory of her.

Oops. Did I misquote in my last post about that Connie Francis' song which Siu Yu mentioned in his radio show ? It's not High Noon but actually a song called Frankie ?

    回覆(2010/10/10 13:31:46)

i did play 《high noon》by connie francis in that radio show. in fact i posted the saame song in the song performance section of this site. it was made popular in hk by 夏邦茗 (Clare Shao) who sang it in a talent contest way back when.

  • 訪客:Peter      2010/10/10 11:16:02

Hi Siu Yu How about some really precious music oldie (yes, we called them 歐西流行曲 since the late 50s) this time? Like you mentioned in your radio programme 有誰共鳴, sometimes there were songs which were only made popular in HK by the radio broadcaster , e.g. High Noon by Connie Francis .. Do you remember Too Proud by Johnny Nash ? (He was best known by the big hit The Voice of Love ) Recently some music blog friend managed to find this long lost gem and sent me its mp3. So I've made an MV of it and placed on Youtube and after that there were many feeback saying they are so happy to be able to listen to it again. The link is: www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=6Tn_JfcSlEo Hope it brings back fond memories for the HK baby boomers

    回覆(2010/10/10 13:38:04)

i completely forgot 《too proud》. thanks for reminding and enjoy listening to it again via your youtube clip. is that your turntable? i remember one time i watched my parents dancing to the song 《the v of l》during a tea dance session in 花都夜總會in mongkok. do you have news of paul and francis? back then they were quite popular among high school girls, especially those from girls' school.
