irresistible & irreversible & undesirable & unpalatable CHANGE IN THE WRONG DIRECTION heading toward all sorts of disasters on the world stage....hmmmm.....sounding like a tragic episode/moment in the life of the actor monty clift/james dean....i'm still lucky to find 1966 batman actor adam west still alive & kicking, being active on facebook & twitter...all the camp from 1960s lingering on...

from Monty Clift to Adam West, what a wide spectrum! you are lucky to be able to enjoy such a variety of stars!

regarding 'the rude manners of many mainlanders': it seems to me many hongkongers are now similar to our mainland countrymen when it comes to making new acquaintances -- the starting questions put make one feel being interrogated by some inland revenue assessor [how much do u make monthly? do u own private property? etc]

your acquaintances are indeed very direct. luckily nobody ever asks me such personal, or rather materialistic questions.

thank you very much for your precise and interesting notes + valuable suggestions:-) i know little about films and actors in the past but i keep hearing ppl talking a lot about montgomery clift--- some said he lived a tragic life... this clip made me cry when i was curious searching on utube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PAyXh3U7Ak :-(

Monty Clift's 7 minute appearance in this star-studded movie earned him an Oscar best supporting actor nomination. His face already damaged in an car accident prior to this movie. i actually posted this same clip in the movie section in this site some time ago. of course yours has better picture resolution than mine. also in my movie section, please watch Judy Garland's equally memorable performance in this same movie "Judgment at Nuremberg". there are several essays on Montgomery Clift in the "other writers series" of this site. Do check out if you are interested.

Joyce Chan was in HK recently but i did not have a chance to meet her. she may 回流 in the near future. ASlo bumpted into 吳慧萍 a couple of times recently. She is still very fit and 有型! Good to see they all do so well after all these years.

totally --- who can resist james franco ? how you do think about Jonathan Rhys Meyers? and joaquin phoenix? :-)))))) i was very into ralph fiennes esp when he played the villain in Schindler's List. i like the term 'over the hill' used by you, --- it seems that time gives men more mercy. someone says there will be an 'embarrassing' period for actors (esp the good-looking) when they reach certain age, but after they reach / pass 40s there will be another peak for them... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxyu00WNJiA&feature=relmfu (colin's funny, kidman too much botox, franco is hot hot hot...)

rhys meyers has to face keen competition from many up and coming actors. Phoenix seems to age overnight. i like fiennes in "the constant gardener", so....low key and humanistic. he is also good in "Bernard and Doris" with Susan Sarandon. is Depp approaching and has reached the "other peak" as mentioned by you. lastly Judd Law is always on my list. his performance sometimes make my heart ache. watch the clip of him in "Alfie" which i post in the movie section of this site.

I'm sure you have many other interesting ideas.

I usually dread "typical" Hong Kong people. But Stella Wong is so typicallly HK in every way. Yet strangely I love her dearly in spite of her Hong Kong-ness. I guess she embodies the best qualitie HK can offer. Up to this day, she still refuses to go to china, not because of any political reasons, just cannot stand the rude manners of many mainlanders. Isn't she quite something?
